The Lion City

Travel Doc. No: 2007-01
Destination: Singapore
Travel Dates: April 1-7, 2007

This was the first time we got out of the country together as a family. Me, my son (3 yo during that time), my older brother and my younger sister. My mom was still alive back then however, she was already experiencing several ailments. Reason why she opted not to come with us. She just gave us the extra dollars for our pocket money :).

We were lucky that we have an aunt who works there as a nurse. We stayed at her condominium at Hume Ave. We were amazed of her place. It is so nice, and is actually comparable to One Serendra in Fort Bonifacio. It has all the amenities such as gym, assigned parking slot, and large swimming pools. The other residents don't seem to use them that much making us feel that we own the place :)

They also have well-maintained landscaped gardens and children's playground. My son enjoyed its unlimited use.

All in all, we just had 5 days of touring SG due to our chosen flight schedules. We arrived there late in the evening so our itinerary started on day 2. And on our last day (day 7), our flight schedule was early morning. BTW, we travelled via Tiger Airways and we did not experienced any problems with them such as delays, flight cancellation, etc.

Tips: Trains and buses are the most practical means of transportation in SG which uses a centralized prepaid system (sensor cards). Good thing that the trains are not that jam-packed like our MRT :D. And the routes on "how to go" is clearly identified in their Tourist Guide Booklet (you can get it for free at the airport). Be prepared for a lot of walking. If you're traveling with a child who easily gets tired, be sure to bring a stroller with you. Most of the establishments there offer rental of these strollers. Bring an umbrella that can fit in your bag so it wont be left or misplaced. This can protect you from the heat of the sun, and oftentimes during the afternoon, it also rains. Bring enough water in tumblers/water bottles from your house because frequent buying of bottled water will also cost you a lot. If you can bring light snacks such as biscuits and chips, then its better.

Here's our itinerary:

DAY 1 - Arrive at SG (past 10pm)/Hume Park Condominium (dinner at house)

DAY 2 - Breakfast at house/Singapore Botanical Gardens (stroll/lunch)/Marina Bay (stroll/merienda)/Suntec (koi feeding/musical fountain show/dinner)

Day 3 - Breakfast at house/Lunch at Orchard/Singapore Zoo(dinner)/Night Safari

Day 4 - Breakfast at house/Lunch at Orchard/Sentosa Theme Park (Underwater World/Dolphin Show/Cable Car/Songs of the Sea/Dinner at house

Day 5 - Breakfast at house/Lunch at Orchard/Jurong Bird Park/Dinner at house

Day 6 - Breakfast at house/Orchard (malling/lunch)/Meet-up with friends/Dinner at friend's house

DAY 7 - Left SG (morning flight, 9am)/Last minute duty-free and souvenir shopping at Changi Airport

There goes our Singapore travel. I will try to update this post by adding a summation of our total expenses. Hopefully we can get back there soon to visit the newly opened attractions such as Resorts World Sentosa, Universal Studios, Singapore Flyer and many more.
